Moto G Play 2023 unveiled: 90Hz Display

Motorola released the Moto G Play (2023), a budget Android phone. The $170 phone runs the eight-core MediaTek Helio G37 chipset. It is the same entry-level processor as the Moto G Power. The new Moto G Play is a decent-quality budget phone, but it also highlights Motorola’s tendency to make endless copies of cheap phones.

The Android 12 handset comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. This can expand to 512 GB by using a microSD card. The IPS TFT LCD, 6.5-inch display, is just 720p and has a fast 90Hz refresh speed, which you won’t find in this price range.

Three cameras are on the back of this phone, which is a first in the Moto G Play series. The 16MP primary lens is supported by 2MP macro and depth sensors, allowing for extreme close-ups and portraits with blurred backgrounds. The rear camera and front sensor can record HD footage at 30 frames per second.

Motorola claims that the phone’s 5,000mAh battery can last up to three days. It also supports USB-C 10W rapid charging and support for 10W. It is IP52 water-resistant, which means it can withstand slight splashes and spills. The Moto G Play does not have NFC or 5G, continuing a well-known cost-cutting strategy.

Motorola, Amazon, and Best Buy will sell the phone’s unlocked version on January 12. It will be available on the same day by cellular and Canadian carriers, with other US regional carriers following suit.
