Elden Ring

Elden Ring Wins Game of The Year 2022 (The Game Awards)

From Software’s Elden Ring won Game of the Year at the 2022 Game Award. It also won Best RPG and Best Art Direction awards.
It was up against God of War Ragnarok, Stray (which won several awards), Stray (which received two indie awards), A Plague Tale Requiem, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Horizon Forbidden West was also in the category.

Josef Fares (It Takes Two), a previous winner, presented the award to Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki. After a live orchestra performed pieces from each of the nominated games, he also received the award. Miyazaki expressed gratitude and said he would make more games in the future.

Elden Ring has had exceptional sales throughout the entire year. Since its launch, Elden Ring has dominated the charts. Although some of the nominated games have done well sales-wise (God of War Ragnarok was one of the most successful launches of any console title), none of them have had the same success and longevity as Elden Ring.

Elden Ring was officially named Game of the year at The Game Awards ten months after its launch. Over 12 million people who have played the Game considered it a foregone conclusion for most of the past twelve months. Although the winner of the trophy was not in doubt, FromSoftware’s Souls game beat nominated games Stray and Xenoblade Chron Chronicles 3; it is clear that the outcome of this one was always confident.

Technically, this is not true. Although Horizon Forbidden West, Plague Tell Requiem, and Plague Tell Requiem weren’t likely to stop Elden Ring from winning the big one they beat, FromSoftware was the real challenger. God Of War Ragnarok, launched in November and poses the greatest threat to Elden Ring’s crown, is now on the horizon. Kratos had a chance to spoil the party by getting in just in time.

Elden Ring players have much more to celebrate this week than just winning an award, as we’ve already mentioned. Elden Ring received DLC around the building months after data miners found it in The Lands Between. It could have been a Game Awards reveal. However, FromSoftware dropped it a few days before with very little notice.

Ragnarok is a great game and would have been Game of the Year for any 12 months. However, Elden Ring is hard to argue with. Elden Ring is a Game of the year worthy of the title, thanks to its extensive map, unique bosses, and the incredible things the community has done for the Game since its launch.
